I don't know what will happen to Stability A.I., they founder is so controversial they are having a hard time even getting funding. Their products are all over the place. It's almost weird how ubiquitous Midjourney has become in comparison. The founder says all sorts of wacky things about Generative A.I., feels like a documentary stuck in hype mode. Did you see his recent interview on YouTube? Pretty wild.

The art is very cool and impressive, but I am still waiting for an example where the eyes aren’t totally wrong. Even the car had messed up headlights!

Also worth pointing out that the community of ML artists have created open-source versions of the web GUI as well: for example this Gradio demo: https://twitter.com/altryne/status/1563452692399214594

I am loving this, I’ve already built a Flask app around it and am launching it tomorrow.

AI art is incredibly wonderful.

For years, I've known that the kind of art I have made for decades using old methods like a paintbrush was on its way out. The unfair competitions in the real world, the praise for lesser talented people, The cost of being in shows, etc. has been really getting old. I'm going to AI Art because I like using it, I like making it, it's a more level playing field, talent has been reimagined, and it's a blast. What exists as the idea in my head is now more likely to come out the other side more as I saw it in my head, which is a huge bonus. And if it doesn't, that's OK because I didn't spend 100 hours making it.

"And AI users are standing on their shoulders, but without asking for permission first." Who is to say many of these old artists and new artists aren't the same people? There is a lot of interest among old school visual artists in AI generated art and digital art in general. It's all put the fun back in art. AI Art is more likely to give some power back to the artists and maybe some of the money too. I love it.

art <> Art. But most people haven't the slightest inkling of the meaning or significance of the difference.

Is it bad? Maybe. Probably not. Why? Because so few know of, or care about, said difference. And because it has been decades since Art has become a commodity. Hell, there are even investment funds that trade in Art (or "Art") now.

When I read these types of articles and learn (among other things) that AI-generated art is winning "art contests", I feel like a medieval scribe slamming the printing press.

But I suppose that is The Way Of Things.
